Web standards

Web standards is an important topic and superficially of no interest to most owners of web sites. The reality however, is that websites not designed to adhere to generally accepted web standards will not work correctly in all browsers. A designer who only works on a pc, with Internet Explorer may find that his or her sites don't work on up to 25% of browsers' computers.

Testing

We test our websites in the following browsers, on the following platforms:

For PC: MS Internet Explorer 5.5, 6+, Firefox 1+, Netscape 7+

For Mac: Safari 1+, Firefox 1+, Netscape 7+, MSIE5.2*
* MS Internet Explorer 5.2 for Mac is no longer produced or supported by Microsoft and we will be stopping support for the browser in the future.

Depending on your target audience, we can build sites to sit comfortably at 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 resolutions. if you are unsure it is always better to assume 800 x 600 as a lot of users still browse at this resolution

Accessibility

In October 2004, a change in EU law required websites to adhere to accessibilty guidelines as laid down in the Disabilities Discrimination Act (DDA).

We build our websites to be as accessible as possible so that a visually impaired user can still navigate your site and 'read' it with a screen reader.

One of the additional benefits of accessible websites is that they are extemely search engine friendly. We can quite often revamp an existing site to bring it into line with the law plus giving it greater 'visibility' to the search engines. Call us free on 01202 824290 to see if your site is legal.
